FAITH DEVELOPMENT
AIM
Religious Education in Catholic schools develops students’ knowledge and understandings of Christianity in the light of Jesus, the Gospel, and its unfolding story within contemporary Australian and global society. It expands students’ spiritual awareness and religious identity, fostering their capacities and skills of discerning, interpreting, thinking critically, seeking truth, and making meaning. It challenges and inspires their service to others and engagement in the Church and the world.

Through dialogue and inquiry, students engage in an open, meaningful way with Christianity in the Catholic tradition, their own religious background and personal experiences and other religious and nonreligious worldviews, within the contemporary cultural context.
PRAYER
At St Francis Xavier Catholic Primary School, students and staff participate in many forms of prayer. Students learn, throughout their time at the school, that prayer is a way of developing their relationship with God. They engage in and develop knowledge of how to communicate with God and express, with the right intentions, all their hopes, works, joys and sufferings.
Friday morning the staff gather at 8am and begin our school day with prayer. When students gather in the classrooms at the beginning of each day, as part of their morning procedures, they will spend time in prayer, offering their works in service of the Lord. Teachers and students take time to pray before each lunch break and at the end of the day. As a whole school, the students assemble after first lunch and join together and pray a variety of prayers relevant to current life. On Monday assembly, we say our school prayer and on Friday assembly each class is rostered to prepare a prayer for the whole school community.

MASSES AND PRAYER CELEBRATIONS
Our school endeavours to keep strong relationships with the St Francis Xavier Parish. Throughout the year, we celebrate Mass and prayer celebrations in the church. Invitations are sent out to parents welcoming them to join us for these special occasions. SACRAMENTS
We work together with the parish to prepare children for the reception of the Sacraments. If parents are interested in having their child/ren be part of the Sacramental program to receive, Reconciliation, First Eucharist or Confirmation, please contact the Parish Office for information on (07) 4957 4807. |
